From boots on the battleground to scrubs in the emergency room, Manan Trivedi has been on the frontlines of the most pressing issues that our nation faces. Growing up the son of a plant worker, becoming a physician, a Naval Officer and a decorated Iraq war Veteran has prepared Manan for the frontlines of Congress.

Growing up in Berks County

A son of immigrants from India, Manan was born and raised in Berks County Where his Parents worked at the Red Cheek apple juice factory. He grew up in Fleetwood where he and his brother attended public school and graduated from Fleetwood High School. Manan Knows his community well and has a long history of service to our country.

A Life-long Commitment to Service

Manan Trivedi’s Passion for community services began at a very age. As a Young teenager, he won a national contest for launching a healthy eating initiative. In college, he received a community services award for his work with HIVIAIDS patients. After medical school Manan chose to do his residency at Harbor-UCLA, a safety-net hospital where he treated mostly uninsured and working -poor patients, Manan also took his medical skills to Iraq, where he served as the Battalion Surgeon for the 1st Battalion, 5th Regiment Marine Corps Infantry during the invasion of Baghdad.

On the Front Lines in Iraq

Manan’s battalion deployed to Kuwait in early 2003 and was one of the first US ground forces to enter Iraq. Manan served on the front lines of the Battlefield. As Commander of the medical team, he oversaw the care of over 1200 men and led his staff in treating hundreds of Marines and Iraqi civilians who suffered traumatic injuries during the first three months of the war. For his service, Lt. Commander Trivedi earned the Combat Action Ribbon the Navy Commendation Medal and his unit was awarded the presidential Unit Citation .

A Mind for Policy

Manan learned early on that good medicine could not be achieved without good Policy. After his medical residency, Manan completed a health policy fellowship and earned a Master degree in Public Policy at UCLA. Drawing on his own experiences with Marines he treated in Operation Iraqi Freedom, Manan was one of the early researches to investigate the mental health issues affecting veterans returning from Iraq and Afghanistan.

Manan returned to the Navy in 2007 when he accepted a post as a health policy advisor to the Navy surgeon General’s Office. Manan served as the Department Head of Emerging Health Policy for Navy Medicine’s Bureau of Medicine and Surgery and as an Assistant Professor of Medicine at the Uniformed Services University of Health Sciences. Most recently Manan Served as a campaign health policy advisor to President Obama and advised Pennsylvania area policy advocacy efforts for the campaign.
