Sunita Subramanian

General Counsel, United Way of New York City

Sunita Subramanian is the General Counsel at United Way of New York City. Prior to joining United Way, she was a Senior Staff Attorney at Lawyers Alliance for New York, where she spearheaded Lawyers Alliance's Immigrant Communities Initiative and directed Lawyers Alliance's Accountability Initiative, an effort to promote the accountability and transparency of community-based organizations.

Ms. Subramanian has advised nonprofit organizations on a variety of corporate and other legal matters relevant to exempt organizations, including corporate governance and tax issues, contract review, the incorporation and federal and state tax exemption process, strategic alliances and compliance with laws governing lobbying and political activity. She also taught many workshops on lobbying and electoral activity, governance and accountability, contracts and other nonprofit law issues.

Prior to joining Lawyers Alliance, Ms. Subramanian practiced corporate law for four years. She received her B.A. from Wellesley College and her J.D. from the George Washington University Law School.
