US Army. Trial Counsel

Captain Carpenter, a Judge Advocate with the US Army, is the Trial Counsel for the 23rd Quartermaster Brigade at Fort Lee, VA. In this capacity, he is the criminal law advisor to the Brigade Commander and the prosecutor for the Brigade and its almost 6000-soldier jurisdiction. CPT Carpenter handles all felony prosecutions under the Uniform Code of Military Justice.

Prior to being assigned as a Trial Counsel, CPT Carpenter was the Chief of the Claims Division at Fort Lee, VA where he handled federal tort cases in Virginia and West Virginia. Additionally, he was assigned as a Military Magistrate in which capacity he held pre-trial confinement hearings and made decisions on whether to issue search or arrest authorizations.

Susrut earned his J.D. from American University in Washington, DC where he was the Managing Editor of the Business Law Brief. He also published an article entitled National Security Review of Foreign Direct Investment: An Analysis of India’s Proposed National Security Exception Act. He earned his M.A. in Transnational Crime & Terrorism from the American University School of International Service where his research focused on international anti money laundering efforts and also Al Qaeda in Iraq’s use of the media.
