Union
Vivek Malhotra is an Advocacy and Policy
Counsel with the national office of the American Civil Liberties
Union. In this position, he coordinates support for the
53 ACLU state affiliate offices throughout the United States
around issues of immigrants’ rights, racial justice,
and voting rights, through a comprehensive program of advocacy,
education and litigation. His focus is in providing affiliates
with strategic legislative and pre-litigation counsel on
the rights of immigrants.
Vivek was previously the national State
Strategist for the ACLU’s Immigrants’ Rights
Project, based in San Francisco, and a state lobbyist for
both the ACLU California Legislative Office and Asian Americans
for Civil Rights and Equality, in Sacramento. He developed
legislation and lobbied state lawmakers on a range of civil
liberties and civil rights issues, including immigrants’
rights. Vivek began his career as a civil litigation attorney
in the Los Angeles office of Loeb & Loeb LLP. He is
a graduate of Pomona College and New York University School
of Law.
