Vyapak Desai heads the Capital Markets Practice Group at the multi-skilled, research-based international law firm, Nishith Desai Associates (www.nishithdesai.com) with offices in Mumbai, Silicon Valley, Bangalore, Singapore, Basel and New Delhi. He is also a senior member in the Corporate and Securities and Litigation & Dispute Resolution and Practice groups at the firm. He holds a Bachelors degree in law and a Masters degree in Commercial Laws (Corporate, Labour and Tax) from the Gujarat University. He is also a trained Mediator.

Capital Markets Team of the Firm have represented either as Issuer counsel or as Underwriter’s counsel for ADR offering of Infosys, Wipro, Rediff, Silverline amongst others listed on either NYSE or Nasdaq, for GDR offerings of Indiabulls Securities and Indiabulls Real Estate amongst others listed on Luxembourg exchange, for IPO’s of Indiabulls, Pyramid Retail, Firstsource, Purvankara, for QIP’s of Orbit Corporation, Sunteck Realty amongst others listed on Indian stock exchanges.
He independently advises clients on several Indian and international public offerings, private equity & venture capital investments, mergers & acquisitions, PIPE deals, issues related to corporate and securities laws, foreign direct investment and other exchange control laws.

He is often on the speaker circuit for both domestic and international conferences including India Venture Capital Journal Conference, SME Development Chamber of India Conference, Franchising Association etc. on Deal Terms and Why you need a good lawyer, Private Equity & Venture Capital Investments in India, Legal aspects of investing in India amongst others. He has authored many articles on implications of various rulings on securities laws, shareholder remedies in cases of fraud and issues regarding the doctrine of priority of state debts etc. He is a member of the International Bar Association and the Bar Council of Maharashtra & Goa.
